The Christian Council of Ghana has thrown its weight behind the pending Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021, that has been laid before Parliament.
According to the Christian Council of Ghana, it has followed the bill with keen interest and participated in the debate on “The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021” hence its support.
A statement signed by the General Secretary of the Council, Rev. Dr. Cyril G.K. Fayose, read: “The Council wishes to state unequivocally, that it supports the Bill and prays that it will see the light of day. We are ready and willing to participate in the consultative process to make the Bill worthwhile.”
Defending its stance on this delicate issue, the Council quoted some memory verses from the Bible; (Genesis 2:24), (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Genesis 19:1-28), noting that homosexuality has no place for procreation and attracts the wrath of God.
The issue of gay rights in Ghana has gotten intense as several people are against the movement. Eight lawmakers are behind the Bill which would impose a 10-year imprisonment on advocates of same-sex and gay rights. The LGBTQ Community in the country has called for global help over anti-gay Bill.
The Christian Council is therefore calling on the general public to support the Bill “through prayers” and any other means that may be required to “uphold the good family system” inherited from of old.
