Ghana’s Covid-19 case count jumps to 4700 with 494 recoveries

The total number of persons who have tested positive for Corona Virus infection in Ghana has risen to four thousand, seven hundred(4700) out of a total number of one hundred and sixty thousand, five hundred and one (160,501) persons tested.

The total number of recoveries as at now stands at four hundred and ninety-four(494), five (5) infected persons are in critical condition, and Twenty-two (22) persons who had an underlying illness such as Diabetes,Hypertension ad chronic liver disease has unhappily lost their lives.

This was made known to the public by Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana in his 9th update to the nation this evening.

” It is important to stress that, five hundred and thirty three(533) out of the new 921 cases recorded between last Wednesday are factory workers from a fish processing factory in Tema, all 533 were infected by one person” said the President.

These 921 new cases were were from backlogs dating as far back as a 26th April not necessarily over the 24 hour window according to the President.

This makes it clear that, if the Government had not been proactive in undertaking of contact tracing of infected persons and had only relied solely on testing to people who only report to hospital, our case count would have stood at 1,413.

The President emphasized that the Four thousand seven hundred(4700) infected persons have been identified, taken out of the General population, Isolated and are been treated.
