The Ghana Police Service announced that it has arrested 406 persons who have failed to comply with the lockdown directives, which are aimed at containing the spread of the coronavirus in Ghana.

Out of this number, 103 are in police custody with 248 granted bail. 41 of the arrested persons are however being processed for court and could suffer a jail term if found guilty.

This information was disclosed by ACP Lydia Donkor, the Director of Legal and Prosecution at the Accra Regional Police Command.

Updating Ghanaians on the efforts by Police Service in dealing with recalcitrant persons flouting the stay home directive, ACP Lydia Donkor stressed that the joint security team that has been established to ensure general compliance would not compromise government’s efforts in curbing the spread of the virus.

In view of that, she warned that persons who flout the directive would not be spared, even though there was general compliance among Ghanaians.

“There’s a good number of people who are recalcitrant. People are leaving their homes, still having parties, weddings, and going to the beaches, which are clearly in violation of what the Imposition of Restriction Act says. For these recalcitrant people who have failed to comply, the message is you’re going to be dealt with,” she warned.

ACP Lydia Donkor also mentioned that the security personnel at the various checkpoints have been educating road users on the need to adhere to the safety protocols outlined by the Ghana Health Service in order to prevent the contraction or spread of the virus.

Greater Accra is leading the pack with 161 arrests, with Ashanti and Volta regions following with 70 and 67 arrests respectively.

Tema and Central Region follows with 31 and 24 arrests respectively.

The others are Bono (11), Northern (9), Upper East (8), Western North (8), Western (8), Eastern (6), Upper West (2), and North East (1).

The rest of the region have so far recorded no arrest.
