A 49 year old man has been reprimanded by the police for defiling a 14 year old JHS 1 school girl at Koforidua Zongo in the Eastern region.
The culprit identified as Musah Ajeymah is a butcher married with three children.
Musah allegedly lured the victim who is a friend to his children with the intention of having her run errand for him. He then pushed her into his and violently defiled her.
After refusing an appeal from several opinion leaders to handle the situation without the intervention of the police, Musah was arrested after the victim reported the incident to her father.
The victim’s father, who spoke to the media, wants to see an end to the practice of handling rape and defilement cases outside of the courts in various traditional communities.
CMost of the leaders in this Zongo community are calling me to settle the matter at home. How are they going to feel if she was their daughter? Will they ask for settlement or allow the courts to take over? So I want to set an example by taking it to the appropriate place,” he said.
