An Indonesian mother is accused of faking her own death in an amazing scam and attempt to avoid paying a debt she owed another woman .
The alleged scam artist, known as “L” reportedly owed an unknown amount to associate Maya Gunawan, with the debt initially due on the 20th November .
According to the news outlet “Daily star,” L failed to pay the debt by the due date and asked for an extension of the loan to December 6th . The day elapsed and Gunawan surprisingly went to Facebook to see L in a post dead .
On 12 December, 2022, Gunawan saw a post made by L’s daughter that she has lost her mother in a car accident. The post proclaimed that L died after an accident on a bridge near her home in Medan, north of Sumatra.
It further said she would be buried 370 miles away in the city of Banda Aceh.
The elaborate scam that saw L’s daughter in on it also added pictures of her mother wrapped in sheets and another images with her mother on a wheel being wheeled into a hospital with her eyes closed as she played dead.
However, recently the daughter reportedly admitted that the Facebook post of her mother’s death was a lie and a scam which was coined by her mother . She said her mother hacked into her Facebook account to pen the fiction .
In speaking to local media, Gunawan claimed she has not gone to the police yet and she is still waiting for L to pay her back the amount she owes, but reports states that L is no longer reachable.
