The Public Relations Officer for the Forestry Commission, Joyce Ofori Kwafo has urged Ghanaians to exercise high discretion and caution as they partake in Christmas festivities.
According to Mrs. Kwafo, during Christmas season, the Harmattan blows during the dry season, which occurs during the months with the lowest sun, a situation that makes fire outbreaks incessant.
‘’We want a casualty-free this Christmas,’’ she added.
She also commended Ghanaians for their enormous support to the Commission in its afforestation drives this year.
She was full of praise for Ghanaians for fully participating in the Green campaign, which is geared towards planting trees, to offsets the challenges posed by climate change.
She also caused farmers against all forms of bush-burning this harmattan season, as same could escalate into full blow bush burning.
‘’The Forestry has some landmark tourist sites, including Accra Zoo, Shai Hill Resource Reserves, Kakum National Park, Kumasi Zoo, as well as others. We ask Ghanaians to patronize these tourist sites this Christmas season,’’ she stated.
