Social Commentator, Allotey Jacobs, has described as palpable untruth suggestions that the Minority’s opposition of the E-levy was borne out of their passion for the poor and vulnerable.
According to the Former Central Regional Chair of the NDC, the Minority is rather seeking to score political points by currying public sympathy with their opposition of the E-levy.
He said that the attempt to win the sympathy of the people with the Minority’s opposition of E-levy will be counterproductive.
He alleged that decision of Momo operators to strike over the E-levy is as a result of incitement from the opposition, National Democratic Congress.
‘‘The whole chemistry is to hold the government to ransom. They want to grind the operations of government to a halt. They are holding the NPP to ransom,’’ he stated.
He warned that the Minority’s posture against the E-levy will adversely impact the larger Ghanaian society.
He questioned if the Minority had power to determine the economic policies of government.
‘‘Let us look at our tax regime holistically. This is what patriots should do’’, he charged.
He predicted that events in parliament was a signal of what can transpire in the 2024 elections, a situation he fears may not augur well for the peace and stability of the nation.
