President Nana Akuffo Addo has asserted that Ghana is still on course to producing its own vaccine.

He made this statement in his 27th address to the nation on measures being taken to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘‘We continue to make certain progress in our quest to manufacture vaccines domestically,’’ he stated.

This statement comes days after he openly chided the European Union for failing to ensure equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, especially in Africa.

The President indicated that after discussing Ghana’s COVID-19 response plans with the President of the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, Ghana has secured 82.5 million Euros facility, to use to strengthen health care delivery efforts and to procure specialist medical equipment and medicines across the country.

‘‘Government has set aside 20 million Euros of this amount to establish the National Vaccine institute, which will supervise the domestic production of COVID-19 vaccines and other vaccines,’’ he added.

He reiterated the need for Ghanaians make themselves available for the vaccination exercise, while we continue to observe the COVID-19 protocols.
