The Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is alleging that the Speaker of Parliament, Right HON. Alban Bagbin has committed to admit the Minority’s motion that seeks to quash the approval of the 2022 budget statement and economic policy of government.
It is recalled that on December 01,2021, the Minority in Parliament filed a motion to the First Deputy Speaker, with the intention of nullifying the approval of the 2022 budget, which had been done, albeit their absence.
This request was subsequently declined by the First Deputy Speaker, HON. Joseph Osei Owusu, on procedural grounds.
In a letter responding to the rejection on December 12, 2021, the Minority expressed their disagreement with the First Deputy Speaker’s decision to decline their motion.
They described his action as erroneous, biased and an overstretch of his powers as First Deputy Speaker.
The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, who signed the letter, served notice of the Minority’s resolve to take the matter up with the Speaker, Right. HON. Alban Bagbin.
But Speaking in an interview with CITIFM, the Majority Leader, HON. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu alleged that the Speaker of parliament has committed to admit the Minority’s motion, while away on a medical trip.
‘’Per the information I have, I understand the Speaker, while away on a medical trip, has minuted on the Minority’s motion, an indication that same will be admitted, ‘’ the Suame Member of Parliament alleged.
He predicted of dire consequences to parliamentary practice, if the information he has is anything to go about.
