Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency in the Volta region., Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has described as sleazy the Revenue Monitoring and Assurance component of the e-levy.
As part of efforts as operationalizing the electronic levies, the Ministry of Finance has allocated some GHC 241 million as Revenue Monitoring and Assurance cost.
The Minister of the Finance has noted that the 1.75% levies on electronic transactions will not just widen the tax net, but same will provide the government with the needed resources to implement its youth entrepreneurial projects and tackle some infrastructural challenge in the country.
The Minority, on the other hand, is fully opposed to the e-levies. They maintain the imposition of the electronic levy, will further deepen the already telling economic conditions of the poor and vulnerable.
Reinforcing the Minority’s position to the e-levies in an interview, Mr. Ablakwa described the Revenue Monitoring and Assurance allocation as dubious and needless.
‘‘It is the most sleazy and dubious allocation in the budget. Government’s flipflopping and the whole opacity with this e-levies, shows that this allocation is needless,’’ he stated.
This position was endorsement by Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram constituency, HON. Samuel George, who described the allocation as a create loot and share scheme.
‘’It makes no sense,’’ the legislator suggested.
