HON. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, has commended donors and partners for making it possible for OVERALL National best fisher to be honored with a 2-bedroom house.
She noted that this is the first time the Overall National Fisher is being accorded such level of recognition.
The Member of parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency also announced that the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will beginning next year mark the National Fish Festival.
‘‘The occasion will be used to showcase the contribution of fishery and aquaculture in Ghana’s food system transformation, she clarified.
She underscored the need for the fisheries and aquaculture sector to be supported, as it provides jobs to some 3 million Ghanaians, across the value chain.
She further announced a number of support and training programmes for Fishery Associations in the country and congratulated all farmers and fisherfolks for their immeasurable support to Ghana’s economy.
She, however, cautioned against illegal fishing practices and warned some punitive measures against persons caught in the act.
This year’s award ceremony is themed: ‘‘Planting for Food and Jobs-Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana.’’
This year’s Farmers Day ceremony is holding at Adisadel College in Cape coast.
160 farmers and fisherfolks are expected to be awarded at the 37th Farmers’ Day Celebration.
The National Best Farmer is expected to receive GHC 600,000, with the National best. For the first time the overall best National Fisherman, will get a two-bed room house
