National Farmers Day Marked: Nana Addo Commends Farmers

H.E Prez. Nana Addo Danquah has paid glowing tributes to farmers across the country for their legendary perseverance and hard work throughout the years.

Speaker at the 37th Farmers’ Day Celebration at Adisadel in Cape Coast, the President expressed delight with the work ethics of farmers across the country and their role in advancing economic prosperity of the country.

He mentioned that even in the face of the dreaded COVID-19 virus, farmers and fisher olks ensured that the country’s basket was never empty.

‘’This year’s event has taken on an added significance because efforts of our farmers and fisherfolks in ensuring that there was no shortage of food at the height of the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. I say a big hearty ayekoo to all of you,’’ he lauded

He stressed on the need for countries, the world over to build a resilient, sustainable and equitable food system, as a way of warding off the impact of the COVID pandemic on global food supply systems.

He mentioned that the Planting for Food and Project, one of the government’s flagship programs, has provided numerous job opportunities and bolstered the country’s economic prospect and potential.

Prez.  Nana Addo observed that since its lauch in 2017, the Planting for Food and Jobs project has evolved into five strategic modules, including food crops, tree crops, vegetables and livestock.

He further stressed on the need for mechanisation, as a means of reducing the drudgery of Agriculture.

This year’s award ceremony is themed: ‘‘Planting for Food and Jobs-Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana.’’

This year’s Farmers Day ceremony is holding at Adisadel College in Cape coast. 160 farmers and fisherfolks are expected to be awarded.
