High Court Grants Police Assistance to Receiver as Businessman Denies Personal Liability
The Accra High Court has granted police assistance to enable a court-appointed Receiver to take possession of No. 1 Oxford Street Hotel, a luxury property associated with businessman and New Force leader Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, over an alleged US$14.9 million judgment debt.
The court’s order follows the enforcement of a judgment linked to a UK-based creditor, with the Receiver seeking to recover the outstanding amount through assets tied to the debt. The hotel, located in Osu, is reported to have been used as collateral in the transaction.
However, Cheddar has denied being personally responsible for the judgment debt, insisting that the liability relates to a company and not to him as an individual. His supporters have also argued that the legal proceedings concern a commercial debt rather than allegations of fraud or criminal wrongdoing.
The development has generated widespread discussion on social media, with many Ghanaians debating the financial standing of some of the country’s wealthiest businessmen. Legal proceedings surrounding the enforcement of the judgment are expected to continue as all parties pursue the matter through the courts.
