This initiative marks the first project under his, “KB-CARES” (Kofi Bentil Cares) foundation which was established to support and improve the livelihoods of his constituents. This initiative however is a fulfillment of his promise during the 2024 Election campaign and it forms part of the Mp’s commitment to empowering the youth through vocational training and self-employment initiatives.
Beneficiaries are of this first project span from his own hometown Mpohor, Adum Dominase and Adum Banso. This will be followed by Dominase and another set of graduates from various training cemtres in Wassa Mpohor.
In addition to donating the sewing machines, the MP also covered admission fees totaling GHS 37,000 for 37 constituents who recently gained admission to various vocational training institutions. 13 from wassa Mpohoh, 26 from Adum Dominase and Adum Banso.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Member of Parliament Henry Godfred Bentil highlighted the urgent need to equip young people with practical tools to start their own businesses.
“Many of our youth are eager to work but lack the resources to begin,” he said. “I made a commitment to support our tailors and seamstresses, and today I am fulfilling that promise. These machines are more than just tools — they represent livelihoods, economic independence, and a brighter future.”
Mr. Bentil explained that the donation is part of a broader strategy to reduce poverty and unemployment in the Mpohor-Fiase.
“We can’t always wait for jobs to find us. Sometimes, we must create our own,” he added. “That’s why we’re investing in vocational skills and entrepreneurship.”
The District Chief Executive, Madam Sophia Aubyn, also addressed the gathering, urging the beneficiaries to take pride in their profession and remain committed to self-development.
“Tailoring and dressmaking are honourable trades. Don’t underestimate your skills. With hard work and creativity, you can build thriving businesses right here in Mpohor,” she said.
Madam Aubyn cautioned against the increasing desire among the youth to migrate in search of greener pastures, encouraging them instead to focus on acquiring employable skills and building sustainable local enterprises.
“The grass isn’t always greener elsewhere. Let’s nurture what we have here. With the right support, our young people can flourish within their own communities,” she emphasized.
The event was attended by regional executives of the Ghana Tailors and Dressmakers Association.
The association’s regional president commended the MP’s initiative and encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity.
“This is a significant boost for our profession. We are grateful to the Honourable MP and urge all recipients to treat these machines as the starting point of their success stories,” he said.
The donation coincided with the spirit of World Youth Skills Day, a global observance that underscores the importance of empowering young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.
