GES warns public against school placement fraud

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has warned the public about unscrupulous individuals who may defraud guardians under the guise of securing placement for their wards in their ostensibly preferred senior high schools.

The warning was issued in a press release statement by GES on January 29, 2023, ahead of the launch of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal.

The CSSPS is the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) sole system for placing qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in Senior High Schools (SHS), Technical Institutes (TI), and Vocational Institutes throughout the country.

GES has therefore urged guardians to be on the lookout for such deceptive individuals and to report them to the nearest police station for further prosecution in order to deter others from engaging in the act.

“Management strongly cautions the general public NOT to fall prey to deceitful persons that may approach them to pay money for a place in SHS. Such persons are to be reported immediately to the Police,” the GES said in a statement.

It also advised guardians to be extremely cautious of fake news, which could lead them to fall victim to placement scams, and advised the public to use the official GES handles to get their questions or issues resolved.

“We also advise the general public to beware of fake news portals and instead follow GES official social media handles; Facebook (ges.gov.gh), Twitter (@gheduservice), Instagram (@gheduservice) and website (ges.gov.gh) for credible information.

“The Ghana Education Service (GES) remains committed to ensuring a smooth, merit-based SHS placement process under the established guidelines and looks forward to your full cooperation,” the statement further assured.
