Don’t repeat students, promote them to next level – GES

The Ghana Education Service has urged all schools and Directors to promote all their students in JHS2 to JHS3 and not repeating any of them.

According to the management of GES in a directive dated January 17, 2023, any JHS2 student who is expected to be in JHS3 in the next academic year should be promoted to avoid the students being at a disadvantage.

The motive of the directive were very legitimate and must be complied by both private and public schools across the nation.

According to the management, the reason for their directive is that the management disagrees to the students being repeated and also because the JHS3 students who are taking the BECE this year are the last group to take the Objective-Based Curriculum.

Per the directive, students who are not allowed to be in JHS3 this year will have difficulties writing BECE in 2024 since the syllabus is not the same.

The management urges regional directors of education to bring the above directives to the attention of Metro municipal District directors of education for strict adherence by all heads of basic schools.
