An operation carried out by the Electoral Commission of Ghana(ECG) in the Yilo and Manya Krobo municipality in the Eastern region seized 20 fake meters which belonged to some residents in the municipality.
The operation that happened on Thursday, January 5, had the ECG arrest 4 people in connection to illegal connections of their meter, including a woman who did a bypass to her meter, also two others who illegally transferred their meters to their location. All these meters were also seized.
There were two teams set up by the Tema Region management of the power distribution company to take this operation.
Aside the 4 who were arrested, 22 ECG customers were held responsible for illegal connections, and that had them taken off the national grid.
This raid is part of ECG’s routine monitoring installations made in Sawyer, Ablochi, Atua and Korletsum communities which are all in the Yilo and Manya Krobo Municipalities.
Sakhiwaa Mensah, spokesperson for the ECG in the Tema Region said that the Thursday’s exercise was a peaceful and satisfactory operation.
The spokesperson for the ECG pleaded that customers of the company should stop engaging in illegal connections because the company will make sure to take anyone found guilty of these violations to justice.
