Two police officers indicted over extortion

In a widely circulated video, two female police officers from the Asokwa Divisional MTTD in Kumasi, PW/Inspr. Martha Ackah and No. 6233 PW/Sergeant Felicia Ocran, are seen soliciting money from a truck driver, threatening to arrest him and seize his vehicle if he refuses to comply with their demands.

Over the video, you can hear the cops grousing about how the 5 cedis the driver was offering them was grossly inadequate to accomplish anything for them and that, if it weren’t for consideration, they would have arrested him and transported him to the Asokwa Police Station.

Although the exact time of the occurrence is unknown, the Ghana Police Service reacted quickly to get the two officers charged.

The Police Service in a three-point press release stated;

  1. The Police Administration has interdicted two Police Officers PW/Inspr Martha Ackah and No.6233 PW/Sergeant Felicia Ocran of the Asokwa Divisional MTTD, Kumasi who were seen in a viral video acting unprofessionally.
  2. The Officers have been interdicted to allow for thorough investigation into the case, in line with Police internal disciplinary procedures after which they will be prosecuted.
  3. We would like to urge the affected victims to come forward and support Police investigation to enable us take the officers through the due process of the law as we seek to ensure that our officers uphold the highest form of professional standards.
