We did not pay winning bonus to Black Stars after their win against South Korea – Hon. Mustapha Ussif

The Black stars, during the World Cup, were able to secure one win against South Korea and lost all other matches in the group stage.

They lost to Portugal and despite their urge to seek revenge from the Uruguayan team for preventing them from going to the Semifinals in 2010, they lost again to Uruguay.

A devastating loss for them but they were able to secure the goal post to avoid Uruguay from a scoring a third goal which could secure their win over South Korea and move to the next stage.

The estimated budget for the group stage was $8.1million, of which the total expenditure used was $5,171,840.

According to Youth and Sports Minister, Honourable Mustapha Ussif, the expenditures covered appearance fee, per diem, flight arrangements, medicals, equipment logistics and hospitality.

He also said they were able to have that surplus of $3million because they decided not to give bonuses per every match but rather after the quarter finals stage.

“This expenditures covered appearance fee, per diem, flight arrangements, medicals, equipment logistics and hospitality.

“What this means is that in spite of our black stars defeating South Korea in our second group match, we did not pay any winning bonus for that game,” he said.
