Africa has gained an additional slot in the World Cup tournament. Thanks to Morocco’s astonishing performance in the November-December 2022 World Cup in Qatar .
This comes after seeing the World Cup team slot move from 32 to 48 teams
Africa, one of the biggest continent in the world has produced huge football talents and also contributed in the world of sports, especially football with the likes of Jayjay Okocha and Abedi Pele, who have all participated in the World Cup which is the worlds greatest football tournament.
After every four years, 32 countries across the world come together to participate in the World Cup. The number of slots given to each continent is determined by the performance of the previous World Cup tournament and how far a particular country from a continent goes.
One thing Africans didn’t have was enough slots in the World Cup competition, and for that reason led to the African teams been eliminated from the tournament in group stages and the farthest they went was the quarter final which was achieved by only three African countries, Ghana, Cameroon and Senegal.
This less slot came to an end when Morocco qualified for the semifinals in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar making it the first African country to make it to the semifinals.
That achievement has seen the slots given to Africa moved from 5 to 9 making Africa one of the continents with a high World Cup slot after the World Cup now having expansion to 48 teams .
The Morocco team was amazing at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after defeating big countries like Belgium, Portugal and Spain who were the 2010 champions, making them eligible for the next stage.
