The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, HON. Samuel Jinapor has expressed excitement over interest by International Agencies in the Forestry ecosystem in funding Ghana’s afforestation drive.
Ghana in 2022 will embark on an ambitious tree planting project, dubbed the Green Ghana project.
The move, which is slated for June 2022, will see the country plant 20 million tress across the country.
It is expected that the initiative will help to renew and restore Ghana’s forest cover whilst reducing the impact of climate change in the country.
The Minister indicated that the Carbon Credit facility will enable Ghana access the request funding to fund its afforestation and reforestation projects.’
He noted that such projects are very capital intensive, hence the need to secure some funding for the project.
‘’The government of Ghana cannot afford the millions of dollars that’s is required to fund any reforestation project of this magnitude, this is why the carbon credit funding is important,’’ he asserted.
