Striker of the Nigerian Super Eagles team, Victor Boniface, lamented about the reception they got upon reaching their destination in Libya for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
It had been reported that the team’s flight was diverted to a different route as it was approaching Benghazi Airport for landing, plus, there was no available shuttle to carry them to their hotel.
Boniface wrote on his Twitter/X handle, tagging CAF in the process :
“Been at the airport for almost 13 hours, no food, no Wi-Fi, nowhere to sleep. Africa, we can do better than this.”
However, the Libyan Football Federation addressed this complaint with a swift debunking apology :
“We regret any inconvenience caused, it is vital to note that such incidents can occur due to routine air traffic, control protocols, security checks or logistical challenges. The Libyan team faced similar issues at your country when they came for the first leg. These are standard procedures at airports worldwide, not a ploy to frustrate your team.”
