Okponglo Residents Hit The Streets; Protests Against Illegal Mining Increase

The fight to eradicate illegal mining in the country seems to be on the rise as the residents of Okponglo did not hesitate to join in the demonstration walk in the streets.

A group of ‘Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey’ managed to lure hundreds of people in the Okponglo community to advocate for an end to illegal mining.

These protestors marched through designated areas, holding up placards and chanting slogans meant to describe what their demonstration was all about.

Interestingly, the police authorities were patrolling behind the group, to ensure nothing bad happened during the walk.

One of the demonstration leaders voiced out his opinion to a reporter close by :

“We are here to make sure government listens to us. We cannot sit back and watch galamsey destroy our water bodies and resources. Government should act now.”
