Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that airline passengers arriving with the Ghana card will not be required to fill out landing cards because their information will be electronically accessed.
This he said will take effect from March 31, 2023.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, 11th February, 2023, Dr Bawumia said: “I held a productive meeting on improving the competitiveness of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) with key stakeholders, including the Minister of Public Enterprises, the Minister of Transport and his deputy, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), the Ghana Immigration Service, the National Security and the Ministry of the Interior.”
“It was decided, inter alia, that airline passengers travelling to Ghana will, from 31st March 2023, no longer be required to fill out landing cards. This is because the same information can be obtained electronically,” the post added.
On March 1, last year, some Ghanaian passengers were admitted to the country for the first time using the Ghana card rather than passports.
In total, 14 passengers on board an Ethiopian Airlines flight (ET 921) from Addis Abeba, which landed at 11:15 a.m. that day, went through the process, which was overseen by GIS officials.
From March 1, 2022, the Ghana Card was officially introduced as an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)-compliant travel document.
