I expect a thorough Audit on National Cathedral project – Former Auditor General

Daniel Yaw Domelevo, the former Auditor General has said that he expects a deep audit of funds spent on the National Cathedral project.

Speaking on the issue on Citi TV’s flagship programme, “The Point of View”, the former Auditor scolded the government for the use of scarce public funds to help the project .

Mr. Domelevo expressed that, “The part of the audit that bothers on criminality should be handed over to the Office of the Special Prosecutor and I think he should work hand-in-hand with the Auditor General and see people being dragged to court and prosecuted in addition to the recovery of the monies. It will bring deterrence into the system. One of the things I expect in this collaboration is to get the necessary evidence that the OSP will use in court”.

The Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral project have said that it would be starting a statutory audit of the project.

This was as a result of the public backlash and calls for investigations into the cathedral project.

“The Board is already in discussions to engage Deloitte, which accepted to be the auditors when the National Cathedral was registered, to commence the normal statutory audit,” the Board said in a statement earlier this week.
