OSP removes  ban on Auction by GRA

The Office of the Special  Prosecutor(OSP), has lifted a ban on auction by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

There has been an ongoing investigation since August relating to labianca company limited.

The said company has failed in paying its duties on imported food products.

An investigation then led to the sacking of the commissioner of customs, Colonel Kwadwo Damoah.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor, took back over Ghc1 million from the said company. A wider investigation was asked to be done on the custom division of the GRA .

A statement from the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng ordered that, “The Special Prosecutor further directed the Commissioner of the Customs Division to immediately halt and discontinue all auction sales till the investigation is concluded”.

But during an interview on December 29, Mr Agyebeng also voiced out some concerns.

“Following its various investigations and interventions at the Customs Division, the Government has reversed the discretionary discount on the Free on board (FOB) value of goods and the Home Delivery Value (HDV) of vehicles effective 1 January 2023,” he said.

He also talked about the new policy been put in place.

“The new policy effectively shuts all avenues for officers of the Customs Division to grant discretionary markdowns and removes opportunity for corruption and corruption-related activities.”
