Tolon District Residents Protest Over Poor Roads

Hundreds of angry residents from the Tolon District in the Northern region have taken on to streets to protest over bad roads, after a year of being promised tarred roads.

According to residents, the previously tarred pothole ridden road was levelled when the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo was visiting the district with the promise of a contractor continuing with the project soon.

The now dusty road has now become a menace to the residents as they inhale dust that emanates from the road and also have difficulty using it for transportation.

The residents, who are mostly fisher folks, farmers and traders took on to the streets to voice their grievances, they mentioned that the Member of Parliament for the district, Honourable Habib Iddrisu had earlier promised to complete the project but they knew he could not afford it hence call on the government to do it.

Convener of the demonstration and Assemblyman of the Tolon Nayele electoral area, Mr. Mohamed Abdul Somed pleaded with the Member of Parliament saying: “MP on behalf of the people of the good people of Tolon who gave you the endorsement of 58.2%, I want to plead with you if you want to retain the 2024 seat, don’t joke.”

The demonstrators sent a petition to the paramount Chief, Retired Major Abubakar Suleman.

According to him, “they should be patient as only patience can help them achieve the development they seek.

However, the Tolon District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Salifu Fuseini whom they requested to forward their petition to the President, also said: “I want to assure you January, February thereabout, after the new year, you’ll see a contractor on site.”
