The Parliament of Ghana on Wednesday December 21, 2022, approved Member of Parliament for Walewale, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu as the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection(MoGCSP).
The new minister and her deputy, Honourable Francisca Oteng Mensah, Member of Parliament for Kwabre East were nominated for the position on August 2, 2022 in pursuant to article 79 of the constitution.
In response to questions asked by the committee, the minister and her deputy promised to diligently work towards achieving MoGCP’s mandate towards the creation of a better society for a better society where women, men, children, the poor and vulnerable, persons living with disability and the excluded enjoy their and fully benefit from government interventions.
Hajia Lariba takes after Honourable Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome who was absent for the duration of her term as Minister.
Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo was ousted as the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection on July 29, 2022 after parliament had adjourned its decision to decide her fate.
The ousted Minister was in the United States in 2021. Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister for Sanitation and Water resources has since then been the care taker minister for the ministry.
