Romelu Lukaku has suffered another hamstring injury with three weeks to go until the World Cup

Inter Milan have confirmed that striker Romelu Lukaku has suffered a further injury setback, just three weeks before the World Cup.

Lukaku had just recently recovered from a hamstring injury that had kept him out for two months, and he now faced another layoff.

‘Lukaku had medical investigations at the Humanitas Clinic in Rozzano this morning, which indicated a strain in the myocardial scar of the femoral biceps of the left thigh,’ Inter said in a statement on Monday morning.

The player’s status will be evaluated again in the coming days.

Lukaku has experienced a terrible year since returning to Inter on loan in the summer following his dreadful season at Chelsea last season, playing only five times for Simone Inzaghi’s team.

He scored in his second appearance for the club against Lecce in August, but then spent time on the sidelines until making his Champions League debut against Viktoria Plzen last Wednesday.

Lukaku came off the bench to score in that game, and he also appeared as a substitute against Sampdoria on Saturday, as Inter tried to ease him back into action.

However, this strategy did not succeed, as the forward sustained another injury.
