Russia-Ukraine conflict: Prices of fuel likely to shoot up – Akuffo Addo

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has expressed concern about the impact the Russia and Ukraine conflict will have on the safety and evacuation of Ghanaians citizens and also on oil prices.

He has therefore urged all Ghanaian students and other Ghanaians in Ukraine to temporarily seek help at government places of shelter like: the Ghana’s mission in that country, other buildings belonging to the government in that country, the diplomatic buildings of countries with whom Ghana has a bilateral agreement to fall on as safety place, properties belonging to ECOWAS and the African Union while his government, “engages the authorities, our relevant diplomatic missions and our honorary consul on further measures.”

Meanwhile, the President through the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has added that the conflict has affected global crude oil prices which may however affect the Ghanaian economy.

“This means that fuel prices in the country are contingent on the ongoing conflict and likely to negatively impact Ghanaians, who, for apparent reasons, are already facing spikes in fuel prices,” he said.

“Not only will prices at the pumps rise; an increase in price on oil and natural gas will drive up the cost of electricity,” the President added.
