Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service , Dr. Franklin Asiedu Bekoe has watered down claims of shortage of AstraZeneca vaccines in the North East region.
Some media reports had suggested that some persons who were due for the second dose had to be turned away over some purported shortage of the AstraZeneca vaccines.
There were indications that some vaccinations centers in the region had run out of the AstraZeneca vaccines.
However speaking to CitiFM, the Director of Public Health disputed those claims, suggestions that there were sufficient quantities of the AstraZeneca vaccines , for persons seeking for a second jab.
‘‘For us, we are currently using all the five approved vaccines. We have reasonable quantities of the Vaccines. It is a matter of asking for them,’’ he stated.
Dr. Bekoe, additionally, bemoaned the low patronage of the vaccines, calling on Ghanaians to take the vaccination exercise seriously.
Ghana is racing against time to get a lot of people vaccinated, ahead of the Christmas festivities. December has been declared a Vaccination Month. This is part of a sustained plan to get individuals vaccinated to mitigate against the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 virus.
