Ahead of the Christmas festivities, the Director General for the World health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has called on governments across the world to consider cancelling all outdoor events.
This is to help curtail the spread of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, which is fast spreading.
European countries have instituted restrictions on movement of persons. Travel restrictions and bans have also been instituted against high-risk countries.
Notwithstanding the fact that over 70percent of Europeans have been vaccinated, the virus continues to spread unabated.
This has raised another wave of public health concerns, the world over.
In Ghana, the Ghana Health Services is reporting an upsurge in the spread of the virus, despite strict measures announced for travelers at the Airport.
In the light of the high virality of the Omicron Variant, the Director-General of the World Health Organization is calling on authorities to cancel public events to protect lives.
According to him the fastest way of curtailing the spread of the virus is for leaders and individuals to cancel or delay all events.
‘‘An event canceled is better than a life cancelled. It is better to cancel now and to celebrate later than to celebrate now and grief later,’’ Tedros stated.
