The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched E-Pharmacy at a ceremony in Accra, on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
This forms part of government’s digital transformation agenda.
The Vice President first hinted of this move when he delivered a public lecture on Digital Economy at Ashesi University.
At the launch, Dr. Bawumia noted that the E-Pharmacy will help every Ghanaian access prescribed medicines conveniently and cost effectively.
He was also optimistic that the use of electronic means for purposes of diagnosis, prescription and purchase of drugs will reduce fake medicines in the system.
He commended the Ghana Pharmacy Council, licensed pharmacies, and other stakeholders, for making E-Pharmacy possible in Ghana.
‘‘Your efforts have achieved an important milestone for Ghana,’’ he stated.
According to the Vice President, the inclusion of E-Pharmacy into Ghana’s digital portfolio entrenches Ghana’s reputation as a technological hub in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The initiative makes Ghana the first country, in Sub-Sahara Africa, to implement E-Pharmacy.
