I am Ashamed- Sam George.

The Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram constituency, Samuel Nartey George has described as Shameful events of December 20, 2021 in Parliament.

In the Parliamentary sitting of December 20, 2021, the controversies surrounding the e-levies took a physical turn. The sitting was geared towards deliberating on the controversial E-levy bill after the Finance Committee agreed to present the E-Levy Bill before the House for further deliberations.

This however turned chaotic, as Members of Parliament could be seen exchanging blows.

This followed the decision of the First Deputy Speaker to vacate the Speaker’s seat for the Second Deputy Speaker, hence allowing him a casting vote.

This was to allow him to have a casting vote to get the Electronic Levies bill passed.

In the ensuing melee, some Members from the Minority side had wanted to climb up the dais to prevent the First Deputy Speaker from vacating the Speaker’s seat for the Second Deputy Speaker.

This turned chaotic as some Members of the Majority also served a pushback.

But reacting to events of Parliament in the dying embers of December 20th 2021, the Outspoken Member of Parliament noted, as follows:

“I am ashamed of what we call Parliamentary democracy. How do we twist the rules this way? Where are we taking the Country to? Is this level of desperation democracy? What is this,” he said in a tweet.
