Parliament to Consider E-levies Today.

It will be a make-or-break day for the government, as Parliament considers the passage of the controversial E-levies.

The E-levies imposes a 1.75% charge on some form of electronic transactions, including Momo transactions.

Since its introduction, the E-levies has been at the center of numerous controversies.

The Minority, as part of its reasons for the rejection of the 2022 budget statement and economic policies of government, had described the levies as draconian and insensitive.

They have vowed never to accept the 2022, budget, until same is scrapped.

Other civil society groups have also kicked against the E-levies, contending that same is antithesis to government’s digitalization and financial inclusion efforts.

Notwithstanding these agitations, the Majority and the Finance Ministry insist the E-levies provides Ghana the surest bet towards reducing high youth unemployment and opportunities to tackle its infrastructural deficits.

Parliament completed passing appropriations for all Ministries and Agencies, last Friday, December 17, 2021.

However, the Electronic levy is expected to be considered today, as it is the only outstanding issue, pending approval.
