The Deputy Volta regional Health Director, Dr.Kwasi Dzokoto says, health authorities in the region will fashion out new strategies for dealing with vaccine hesitancy in the region.
Reports have it that large quantities of vaccines to the Volta region have expired due to the unwillingness of persons in the region to get vaccinated.
This has since been attributed to the vaccine hesitancy in the region.
But reacting to the development, Dr. Dzokoto said that the new engagement strategy will target the youth to take the jab.
Comparing the region’s statistics to that of others, he noted that the Volta region has the lowest vaccinated regions, with only 14% vaccination.
‘‘Some regions have done close to 55%. Others have done 30%. The Volta region has done only 14% percent. This is really of some concern to us in the region,’’ he stated.
He attributed this low turn out to the misconceptions some people have about the vaccines and underscored the need for more education and engagements.
He thanked the Traditional leaders in the region for their support to the Health directorate and asked the religious bodies to help them eliminate vaccine hesitancy in the region.
