Hannah Tetteh-Prioritize Democratic Principles

The Special representative of the UN Secretary-General to the African Union, Ms. Hannah Tettey has asked African leaders to be sincerely committed to the democratic principles.

She was speaking at the 2021 Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum in Accra.

She stated that by prioritizing good governance, African leaders can reduce the tendency of agitations and violent resistance by citizens.

To her, strict adherence to constitutional mandate and democratic principles in African countries will reduce violent extremism.

The Former Minister for Trade and Industry asked heads of state across the continent to prioritize poverty alleviation programmes.

We need to show the rest of the world that it is more than just that slogan and that we mean it when we say we want to silence the guns’’, she stated.

We must ensure that policies, programmes, initiatives and more importantly government’s action and the actions of other political stakeholders discourages unconstitutional change of governments and enhance peace and government’’, she added.
