Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has hinted of government’s efforts towards building consensus for the 2022 budget statement and economic policies of government.
Speaking at Monday’s press conference, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta revealed that government will work closely with all the various stakeholders to put the controversies surrounding the approval of the budget to rest.
It would be recalled that the processes leading to the 2022 budget approval have been marred in controversies.
The Minority had voted to reject the budget. This was subsequently overturned by the Majority.
But in a press conference on Monday, November 06, 2022, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, extended the olive leaf to the Minority, making some concessions with the Agyapa deal, Keta sea defense project and the benchmark values.
He warned of dare economic consequences if the budget is not approved.
“The full consequences of not passing a budget are serious. This will imply that from 1st January, 2022, for government to continue to work, we’ll need to obtain parliamentary approval to spend in advance of appropriation, other than that government, the entire government will have to shut down”, the Finance Minister explained.
