FDA warns consumers ahead of Christmas

Ahead of the Christmas festivities, the Eastern Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Authority, Mr. Samuel Kwakye has cautioned the public to be wary of expired and orphaned goods.

Speaking to Peace FM’s Michael Akrofi, he noted the FDA, which has a mandate to protect consumers against unwholesome food, drugs, and cosmetics products, will continue to deliver on its mandate.

He asked the public to be vigilant and be sure of the expiry status of any food, drink or medicine they consume during the Christmas festivities.

Mr. Kwakye called for closer support and collaboration of retailers and the general public to help the Authority to better protect consumers.

‘‘Consumers must be vigilant. Orphan products, which usually do not have manufacture’s name and expiry information must be avoided, this Christmas’’, he advised.

He bemoaned the practice where  some unscrupulous retailers, seeking to cash in on  festivities, engage in some illegal and illegitimate business pracetices.
