Parliament resumes sitting today.
On top of the agenda is the way forward for the 2022 budget that had been rejected by the Minority side of Parliament.
The first deputy speaker of parliament, per the houses’ standing orders is expected to assume the Speaker’s seat.
This follows the Speaker of Parliament’s absence on a medical check-up outside the country.
Both the Majority and Minority are expected to reach some consensus and compromises as the fate of the 2022 budget still remains on tenterhooks.
Prior to today’s sitting there have been contradictory signals on whether or not both the Majority New Patriotic Party or the National Democratic Congress, NDC, will soften their stands to make way for the budget’s approval.
Whereas some parliamentarians, have called for cool heads to prevail, others seem adamant and uncompromising on their stands about the 2022 budget.
The Minority in Parliaments insists that until their 5-point requests, which includes a reconsideration of the e-levies, are accepted, they will not rescind their rejection of the budget.
Ghanaians and the international community is waiting with bated breath on how things pan out today and the implications of same on Ghana’s economy.
