Let’s Support Ghanaian Entrepreneurs-Dr. Kwabena Duffour

Former Minister of Finance, Dr. Kwabena Duffour has expressed over the high foreign invasion of the Ghanaian economy.

He questioned why many sectors of the Ghanaian economy is handled by foreign players rather than Ghanaian entrepreneurs.

‘’Where are Ghanaian entrepreneurs in key sectors of the economy. Where are they in the mining and oil sectors. It appears our economy is owned by foreigners. We do not even own Fastfood chains in Ghana,’’ he lamented.

He mentioned that the situation is entirely different when, as a Ghanaian investor, you go to these foreign lands.

‘’We will sponsor Ghanaians miners so they can partner with foreign investors. We need to replicate Bostwana’s model in Ghana. We need to be conscious about supporting Ghanaian entrepreneurs to grow, he asserted.

He mentioned that as Finance Minister, he negotiated for gold royalties to be raised from 3 percent to 5 percent.

All over the world, Ghanaians are doing great. We can do it. My position is not to turn away foreign investors. It is my position that they partner and build the capacity of Ghanaian business owners, he proposed.

Dr. Kwabena Duffour, who is the Founder of the Institute of Financial Studies, has been on a media tour, after organizing the maiden edition of the Ghanaian Dream at Tang Palace hotel in Accra.
