A political scientist and analyst, Dr. Osei wusu Bonsu, has described as retrogressive, the decision of Minority to reject the 2022 budget statement.
‘‘There are three ways governments generates funds. Governments make money through Productions, Taxations and Loans. I cannot understand why the Minority will raise issue with Ghana’s ballooning public debt, and still be opposed to government’s decision to impose taxes,’’ he queried.
He dismissed Minority’s claim that their rejection of the budget will not further the interest of the very poor people they claim they are fighting for.
‘’The Minority is only seeking its parochial partisan interest with their rejection of the 2022 budget. I truly do not think this action will serve the best interest of the poor and vulnerable,’’ he remarked.
He was speaking to Oman FM’s evening news on Monday, November 29, 2021.
The 2022 budget was rejected by mainly the Minority side of Parliament. The side had raised concerns over the imposition of 1.75% and other measures that are contained in the budget.
The Minority leader has mentioned that the Minority will not accept the budget until some of their concerns are addressed.
