2022 Budget: Rejection in Bad Taste-Dr Kwaku Afriyie

He wondered why the Minority will spearhead the rejection of a budget which is geared towards providing reliefs to Ghanaians, amidst the challenges that has come with COVID-19.

The Minister of Environment, Science and Innovation, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie has expressed shock and sadness over Parliament’s rejection of the 2022 budget statement.

He also expressed surprise as to why the Minority will reject a budget that has the potential of increasing Ghana’s tax net to get those in the informal sector to also contribute to the tax basket.

The Minister of Environment, Science and Innovation, who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for MP for SEFWI WIAWSO Constituency, Western North Region also took a swipe at the Speaker of Parliament for what he describes as a divisive posturing of the Speaker.

‘‘They are hampering on people’s ignorance. The E-levy is the most progressive way of increasing Ghana’s tax net,’’ he remarked.

He pleaded with Ghanaians to remain focused and dismiss the retrogressive stands of the Minority in rejecting the budget.
