A 34-year-old man, Harry Amponsah, suspected to be mentally unstable has set himself on fire to prevent his arrest after inflicting knife wounds on his father in Santa-Maria, Accra.
According to the Odorkor Police, they received a complaint from the suspect’s father on 31st July 2021 to the effect that his son Harry Amponsah suspected to be mentally challenged, had attacked him with a cutlass and inflicted wounds on his left arm. The complainant then led Police to his house in Santa Maria to arrest his son.
The suspect upon seeing the Police entered his room immediately and locked the door. The Police suddenly saw smoke coming from his room after he entered.
The door was forced opened, and the suspect was found on his bed in flames and a deep knife wound on his stomach. The fire was put out and he was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment.
