The German professional goalkeeper for English side Chelsea, has extended her contract with the club until 2024 summer.
Berger joined Chelsea squad from Birmingham in 2019 and has since been an integral part of the Blues ladies side. She won the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Golden Glove award after maintaining 12 clean sheets in 17 games that helped the Blues secure our second consecutive WSL title.
She is the second announcement for the Blues ladies side this week with youngster Aggie Beever-Jones who signed her first full-time contract yesterday.
Berger played a major role in getting Chelsea their first-ever Champions League final with one of her best highlights coming in the round of 16 tie against Atletico Madrid in which she pulled off two penalty saves that helped Chelsea progress.
On signing her extension, she said, “‘I’m really happy to stay here for longer. The players, the team and the staff, they make me a better player so there’s no reason why I should want to go anywhere else”.
The general manager of the ladies team Paul Green noted that they are delighted Ann extended her contract until at least 2024. “Ann’s an important player for us and has proven herself to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world with her performances. We feel that she is now coming into her peak as a goalkeeper and look forward to seeing how she continues to develop her game in the upcoming years” Paul Green said.
