Uganda’s popular musician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu known by his stage name “Bobi Wine”, who is running for Presidency in Uganda was brutally arrested on Wednesday by the state Police.
According to a statement by the State Police, Bobi Wine was arrested for defying Covid-19 protocols issued prior to the General Election.

“Despite repeated warnings issued to candidates, their agents and wider public about the negative impact and health risks of holding unauthorized rallies and processions, we continue to witness acts of defiance and total disregard of the EC [Electoral Commission] guidelines.
Therefore, those who shall defy these Electoral Commission guidelines with their sinister plans aimed at disrupting the electoral process will definitely suffer consequences,” the statement read.
Meanwhile the opposition members also claim that the government is using the Covid-19 restrictions protocols as an excuse to intimidate the opposition party. Following his arrest people took to the streets of Kampala to clash with the Police and Military who responded with Tear gas resulting to the death of 3 people leaving 34 injured.

The popular Musician is contesting Museveni’s three decade rule of Uganda. He joined politics in Uganda in 2017 as an independent candidate and has been at loggerhead with the government of Yoweri Museveni, condemning their policies and singing songs against them.
This is not the first time Bobi Wine has been arrested, on the 3rd of November right after his he successfully filed his nomination, he was swept into a Police car and driven to an unknown place by the state Police and later released and placed under house arrest at his residency after some citizens has chanted for his release.
On the 5th of November, his party, National Union Platfrom regional office located in Karamoja raided and vandalized by a Team of Uganda’s state Military and Police Men.
