Suspension of public and social gatherings extended by 14 more days

The president of the republic Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended the suspension of all Public and social gatherings set out in E.I 64 of 15th March 2020 for another 2 weeks, effective tomorrow 1 am, 27th April.

This was made known to the general public by the President in his ” No. 8 ” address to the nation since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Ghana has currently recorded a total of 1550 confirmed cases of the viral infection, 155 recoveries and 11 deaths.

The President revealed in his statement that the positivity rate, thus the rate of infection from those sampled, continues to remain constant at 1.5%. Six (6) person are critically ill, and the remaining 1,378 have mild or no symptoms at all, and are responding treatment.

According to the President, the nation has registered a modest success in the important battle to trace and test person who have come into contact with infected persons, but the government will not rest on their laurels and will not let guard down in the continuous fight of the pandemic.

” We will pursue vigorously our strategy of enhanced 3Ts, i.e tracing, testing to allow us identify infected persons, and isolating and treating them. It is the surest way to root out the virus. Our efforts will remain constant , as will our abiding in the Almighty and our determination of the virus” the President stated.

In addition to the incentive packages given to all health workers, Government has enabled domestic production and supply of protective PPEs to our health workers to increase.

The President urged all citizens to practice the social distancing measures outlines and practice the washing of hands on the regular bases to help in the fight of the pandemic.
