There has been a reported scam that ensued during the period when a striker from Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski, was transferred.

The striker from Poland was transferred to another football club but Cadena reported that the Spanish club was tricked into sending €1 million to a phony who claimed to be working for Robert under the name Pini Zahava.

The transaction was made but the bank put it on a pending list, blocking the withdrawal altogether and that made the imposter send another email with a threat to report the officials to the FIFA organization.

However, the scam was detected when the bank called Barcelona and closed the account, with the club officials confirmed to Cadena that they had been swindled but the funds were recovered, fortunately.

The real agent working for striker Robert Lewandowski stated that Barcelona reached out to him a month after the transfer to confirm whether he had received the payment, but he denied having any knowledge about the transaction.

The Barcelona officials confirmed, later, that the fake account and email were not connected to him in any way at all.
