Former President Mahama has waded into the controversy surrounding the now botched national cathedral project.
According to him, while he is not opposed to the building of a house of God, he is equally unable o comes to terms with the thievery that has characterize the national cathedral project.
He made these observations in a media engagement held at Kempiski in Accra.
‘’I don’t condone stealing in the name of God and that is what has happened in the case of the national cathedral’’, he stated.
In a wide ranging media engagement, the former president expressed grave misgiving with the status of the national cathedral project considering that fact that a whooping GH C 393 million has reportedly been committed towards the project.
The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress wondered why state funds would be committed to someone’s private pledge to the Lord.
Although we were promised that the project will privately funded, 393 million cedis of public funds have been diverted into the said project.
He cited the resignation of some board members and their demand for a forensic audit as reasons to firm up his believe that the project has been marred by corruption.
